Negligent handling of hazardous materials such as asbestos, fiberglass, fluorescent bulbs, (mercury) etc. can lead to air pollution.

Rough and finish carpentry may utilize reactive and toxic adhesives and chemical coatings, including paints, lacquers and stains. Clean up of any of these operations may be accomplished by use of toxic or combustible solvents. Release of any of these substances can occur during their use and subsequent cleanup.

Theft or attempted theft can result in releases of paints, lacquers, stains or adhesives. Vandalism can also result in releases of these compounds or scrapped or waste materials.
